Regional Eco Arts Community Home
REACH (Regional Eco Art Community Home) is a social practice project that I began in 2020, conceived in response to the increased amount of litter I was seeing at local parks during the pandemic — the idea was to create an environmentally focused artist residency program that would draw attention to local ecological issues and encourage restorative practices. Through sustained relationship-building with the City of Redlands, the University of Redlands, The Artlands Creative, the Inland Empire Resource Conservation District, and local residents, the project was developed over five years and launched in 2026. REACH includes a community garden space at Sylvan Park in Redlands, CA, brought to life through a partnership with the City's Facilities and Services Department, which installed ADA-accessible pathways, and community volunteers who helped design the garden, install a rain catchment basin, and plant over 50 drought-tolerant native species. The garden also includes raised beds open to the public for food growing. The project celebrates and reflects the community through its resident artists while creating opportunities for community building through shared land stewardship. Made possible with generous support from Arts in California Parks, our inaugural cohort included eight local artists, and we host programming at the REACH Garden in Sylvan Park and the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve in Morongo Valley.
